Time to plan the year ahead and set some healthy, life affirming goals for 2013
In support of the traditional goal setting and detoxing frenzy of January, I thought it would be helpful to review the difference between expectations and life affirming goals.

LIFE AFFIRMING GOALS AND THE 5 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR-SELF BEFORE ADOPTING A GOAL

  • 1. Is this goal truthful to my core values?  (To identify core values comes before goal setting)
  • 2. Is this goal supportive of my emotional need for social connection and integration?  If you share or/and involve someone else into your goal you have a lot more chances of achieving it than if you just keep it quiet and to yourself. (Finding like-minded people and relevant information are the first steps to achieving a goal)
  • 3. Is this goal contributing (to health) or damaging (physically; emotionally, spiritually) to me or others or my environment?
  • 4. Does this goal make me feel significant and empowered or does it fill me with dread and anxiety about the pain and suffering I may encounter along the way?
  • 5. Is this goal going towards or away from something? Feeling better slimmer etc. are not positive goals (despite appearances). They are merely stating that the current state needs improving. To be positive a goal needs to be purposeful. What will it help me achieve to be slimmer? If you can’t get a strong positive answer that makes you want to embrace the process with enthusiasm then you have not yet found a goal
